ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture has been a part of primary healthcare in China for the last 5,000 years. As in many ancient health practices, the emphasis of acupuncture is on prevention. Acupuncture is Chinese system of healing that views health as the balance of an individual's energy, or qi. Fine needles are inserted at specific points along meridians just under the skin. This process stimulates, disperses, and balances the flow of energy, relieves pain, and treats a variety of chronic, acute and degenerative conditions.
What can I expect from an acupuncture treatment?
An acupuncture treatment runs between an hour and fifteen minutes to an hour and a half. This includes history/intake and palpation, followed by a 15-20 minute treatment on the front of the body and a 15-20 minute treatment on the back of the body. An acupuncture treatment commonly consists of needles and moxibustion, and may include other modalities, such as cupping therapy.
What are Chinese Herbs?
Chinese herbal medicine is a system of herbal combinations that have developed from over 3,000 years of empirical observation and clinical trial and error. Classically, herbal sources include plants, minerals, animals, and insects. The majority of Chinese herbs are plants and minerals taken in a tea, powder, or pill form, they serve the same purpose as acupuncture, and may be used alone or with acupuncture as an adjunct therapy.
Other modalities
Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves the burning of mugwort, a spongy herb used in many different forms, to facilitate healing. The actual Chinese character for acupuncture, translates literally to "acupuncture-moxibustion." The purpose of moxibustion, as with most forms of traditional Chinese medicine, is to strengthen the blood, stimulate the flow of qi, and maintain general health.
Cupping is done by creating A partial vacuum in Glass cups placed on the skin either by means of heat or suction. This draws up the underlying tissues. Cupping is used to stimulate flow of blood, lymph and Qi to the affected area. It's uses include relieving pain in the muscles, especially back pain from stiffness or injury, and clearing congestion in the chest, which can occur with colds and flu.

TAROT THERAPY
Laurie Giannola; Tarot Therapist, Social Worker
When attempting to explain the Tarot, it may be difficult to understand it as anything other than an instrument for divination, which is the traditional view. However, the Tarot, under the guidance of a therapist, is more than a tool for prediction. It becomes a means for reflection and self- exploration, creating a bridge to the unconscious and revealing the deeper meaning of our experiences. Through the Tarot, individuals have the ability to understand unhealthy patterns of behavior and rediscover meaning and purpose in their lives. Tarot Therapy is a process that helps to uncover the unconscious memories stored in the body that may have otherwise never come to the surface and helps bring the mind, body and spirit to wholeness to ultimately live more fully.
Laurie Giannola is a licensed psychotherapist who has been studying the cards for almost ten years and reading for about six. The study is continuous but with every reading, she feels more connected to the cards and, as therapist, she feels an intense connection to humans. Somehow, the mystery of the tarot and modern therapy come together and there is much more to behold than "telling the future". Tarot Therapy is a means to facilitate spiritual, emotional and mental wellness to restore balance in your life and to make changes that are necessary to heal and grow.
